About the Artist
Na’ye Perez is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Through his paintings, drawings, and socially engaged performances, his work explores themes of shared experiences, identity, and accessibility. Perez’s eclectic mixed media compositions encapsulate the vibrancy, shared joys, histories, and traumas of inner city youth culture. Creating scenes that are a blend of reality and imagination, Perez uses a wide range of materials to archive the small, fleeting moments of everyday life in various places.
Perez (b. 1992, Los Angeles, CA) holds an MFA from Pratt Institute. In 2020, Perez received the Black Artist Fund grant and the Pratt Circle Award. He has shown work in solo and group exhibitions nationally at Welancora Gallery. RegularNormal Gallery, Community Folk Art Center at Syracuse University, 129 Studio Gallery, Residency Gallery, BRIC, Oolite Arts, Pratt Gallery, Montclair State University Galleries, and Dinner Gallery. His public art installations include an ArtBridge mural in Chelsea; 4rm Da Source (And Still I Rise) at 500 Main Street Apartments in New Rochelle, NY; and Mood / Toast / No L's in Times Square. His residencies include New Wave, West Palm Beach, FL; The Shed’s DISOBEY, and Pratt Forward, both in New York.
Perez’s artworks are in the personal collections of Carrie Mae Weems, Derek Fordjour, and Yashua Klos. His work is also in the collection of the University of Toledo and Fidelity Investments.
