Founded by Ivy N. Jones, Welancora began operating on a full-time basis in 2014 out of a 19th century brownstone in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, which it continues to call home. The mission of the gallery is to represent an intergenerational group of artists by placing their work with individual collectors and institutions, publishing scholarly catalogues and holding major exhibitions. We find strength and agility in our size as a small gallery, operating out of a space that we own, in a location that is very community oriented. This unique positioning has allowed our program to grow organically through consistent programming in our space, while we expand our reach by exhibiting at art fairs such as The Armory Show, Art Basel Miami Beach, Frieze Los Angeles, and EXPO Chicago.
From time to time, we designate space in our schedule for guest curators to organize exhibitions. A few of the more memorable exhibitions at the gallery include Conjure, a solo show of work by Aisha T. Bell, curated by Derrick Adams; RED, a group exhibition curated by Nico Wheadon featuring the work of Alteronce Gumby, Leslie Hewitt, Felipe Baeza, Jaishri Abichandani, Anders Jones, Dana Robinson, Joe Hayes, III, Eleisha Faith McCorkle, Joseph Collier, III, Soull Ogun, Lina Puerta, and Devin Morris; In the Future When... curated by Daricia Mia DeMarr, featuring work by Damien Davis, Delano Dunn and Tiffany Smith; How Did You Get This? The Spaces We Inhabit, featuring the work of Zalika Azim, Elliott Jerome Brown Junior, Collette Veasey Cullors, Melvin Harper, Daonne Huff, Anders Jones, and Deborah Willis, and Mirrored by Nature, curated by Corinne Gordon featuring work by Oasa DuVerney, David Rios Ferreira, Tajh Rust, and Adrienne Elise Tarver.

Ivy's Projects
Ivy’s Projects is a temporary art space powered by Welancora Gallery, conceived as a platform for bold ideas and innovative practices. The space serves as an incubator for artistic development: as a launchpad for younger creatives, our program supports the next generation of visual artists, writers, and curators. Through our curated exhibitions, artist talks, and accompanying catalogs, Ivy's Projects presents an authentic and thought-provoking art program from diverse voices.
Ivy's Projects is located at 410 Jefferson Avenue in a historic brownstone with two floors of gallery space. The space is a a short walk away from our primary location at 33 Herkimer Street. We are accessible by the C train (Kingston-Throop Aves) and the B15/B26/B42/B43 buses.
The gallery is available by appointment only on Wednesdays and Fridays.
